Frequently Asked Questions
Provided are answers to a few of the frequently asked questions we receive.

What is your business relationship with Gault Race Management?
We began assisting Gault Race Management at their races in 1998. We have continued to develop a strategic business alliance that has been mutually beneficial to both companies. This has provided us with access to the latest timing technologies, including ChronoTrack Systems; greater flexibility in scheduling; and allows us to share resources and information to benefit our customers.
What types of events do you time?
We have timed many types of events since 1991, but primarily we time:
  • Running races
  • Mountain bike races
  • Triathlons
Do you only time races in Michigan?
No. We will consider any location requested; but most of our events are in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Would you consider timing a charity event at no charge?
We typically time two charity events annually with no timing fee. This only applies to our repeat customers, not a first year event.
What timing system do you use?
We use ChronoTrack Systems. This system features disposable timing tags that are attached to the race number bib or worn strapped to the ankle, depending on the type used. ChronoTrack Systems is used at most of the major running events in the USA.
Do you rent equipment?
Yes. The most common item is an inflatable finish line arch. Any rental includes the services of an assistant to deliver the equipment and instruct you on its proper use.

Finish line inflatable arch.
Do I really need to wear a race number bib?
Yes! Here are a few reasons why:
  • Your number identifies you as a registered participant.
  • If emergency medical assistance should be required on the course, you can be identified quickly and your emergency contact notified.
  • We use the number for timing purposes and it may contain your timing tag.
  • We manually record your race number as you cross the finish line for back-up timing purposes. The number needs to be visible on the front of your body.
  • In a USAT sanctioned triathlon, it is required in the rules. You can receive a time penalty for not having your number visible at the finish line.
  • There may be a photographer at the event and your number is necessary for identification.
  • Your number is often used for name announcing at the finish line.

How long will it take to post results at the race?
Results are posted within a few minutes of the first finisher and then continuously thereafter. We may also post live results to Facebook, Twitter, text message or email at some events. Complete results are posted immediately at the conclusion of the race at www.raceservices.com.

Results Kiosks
Results are posted instantly on touch screen kiosks at select events.
Why am I not in the results?
This is not a frequent issue, yet it does happen. People typically think their timing tag did not work, however this is rarely the case. The most common reason to be omitted from the results is not completing your registration form completely or legibly. If we are missing your age, gender, or category we are unable to included you in the results.

Please consider these tips to help ensure you receive quick and accurate results:
  • Complete your registration form completely, accurately, and legibly.
  • If you pre-registered, verify your registration information is correct at packet pick-up.
  • Wear your race number bib on the front of your body and on the outside of all clothing in a running race.
  • Do not fold, cut, or crinkle your race number bib.
  • If you picked-up multiple race number bibs for the family, make sure you wear the correct bib.
  • If the race has a timing mat at the start, always cross the mat.
  • Cross the finish line mats only once.
  • Please look at the results prior to the award ceremony to verify correctness. If there are any discrepancies please notify us. Your assistance is appreciated in making sure the results and awards are correct.
